Pōhaku Sessions at Pāhonu Turtle Pond in Waimānalo
by Hawaiian Practitioner Kimeona Kane
Wednesday October 22, 2025 | 8:00a – 12:00p | In-Person
Please join us for a special Mālama ʻĀina event exclusive to Hawaii Behavioral Health & Wellness Convention attendees and HiBHC volunteers. This event will involve learning about and participating in the preservation of Pāhonu (an ancient sea turtle enclosure once commissioned by the Ali’i of Waimānalo) through the practice of uhauhumu pōhaku (the traditional practice of dry-stack stone masonry).
In collaboration with the Waimānalo Limu Hui and Protect and Preserve Hawaii, attendees will help to restore and maintain the rock walls of Pāhonu by collecting, relocating, and fitting rocks rocks together under the tutelage of Kumu Kimeona Kane and Ryan Chang. As this is the only known structure of its kind in the Hawaiian Islands, attendees’ time and efforts will have a meaningful impact on ensuring Pāhonu is stewarded for future generations. We envision this event to be an opportunity to connect authentically with a very special place and to allow for time to have fun and connect among our Hawaii mental health ohana.
